Oliver Shih

AI/ML Wireless Research Engineer @ Apple

Ph.D., Electrical & Computer Engineering

Carnegie Mellon University

My research interest lies at the intersection of AI/ML, wireless, sensing, and embedded systems.

I'm currently leading the wireless research effort on 6G with a focus on AI/ML. I've previously contributed to the birth of the first-generation Apple modem C1/C1X.

Prior to joining Apple, I completed my Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University, advised by Prof. Anthony Rowe. I was previously affiliated with WiseLab and CyLab at CMU. My dissertation focused on applying machine learning and artificial intelligence to active acoustic systems to sense people, space, and location.

While pursuing my Ph.D., I worked as a research and development intern at Texas Instruments in 2015, and participated in the DARPA Spectrum Collaboration Challenge (SC2) as the team lead of CMU in 2017. I was also part of the TerraSwarm Research Center from 2013–2017, and part of the CONIX Research Center in 2018.
